Joseph Cumbo was born in Le
Creusot, France. At the age of Two his family
relocated to Toronto, Canada where he has lived
ever since. He first picked up a Bass when he
was 14 years old and taught himself to play by
listening to Led Zeppelin records and trying to
emulate John Paul Jones. Joseph decided to start
a band with some high school friends and played
various shows on the high School circuit. After
playing in a number of bands, Joseph met Michael
Marquez who was in a band called Aftermath. Joseph
joined Aftermath and began a long friendship with
Michael Marquez. Joseph & Michael were in
and out of bands together over the years until
they invited Lawrence Falcomer to jam with them
one day. Since that time the three have formed
a great partnership, which has stood the test
of time. Soon after they met, they started a band
called L.A., In the early years Joseph managed
the band as well as playing Bass. L.A. became
a force in the local Toronto club scene often
selling out their club shows, and were easily
one of the more popular bands in a very vibrant
Toronto club scene.
The band was in need of a vocalist and through
a mutual friend Joseph was introduced to Adam
Troy who was touring the South, East region of
the U.S. with an Orlando Florida based band.
Joseph knew immediately that Adam was the vocalist
who should front what was to be a new revamped
version of L.A.
Adam joined the band and the seeds of Sonic X
were sown, the band was known briefly as Zara
White but once their debut CD was recorded and
ready for release the name was changed to Sonic
X.
